After spending a very cold and rainy 2017 summer in Newcastle, we decided to go away in summer 2018. My skin hadn't had a natural tan in so long! We planned 5 days on the beautiful island of Ibiza, Spain. We landed in the evening and took a bus across the island to Santa Eularia for a quieter holiday on what is otherwise known as a wild party island. All the restaurants and cafes lined up down the street had awnings and tables outside, so we stopped into one on the warm evening and enjoyed some wine and canapés.
We spent lots of time stretched out in the sand on this trip, but also took some time to explore the local sites! On one afternoon, we climbed the Puig de Missa overlooking the town, and explored the 16th century white-washed church that sat on the top.

We also took a bus across to the Old Town Eivissa, also known as Ibiza Town, to see the scenic Dalt Villa, a fortified medieval part of the city perched at the highest hill. We had beautiful views of the city below, as well as the unbelievably blue harbor!
For the 4th of July, we celebrated by getting tickets to the Armin van buren show at Hï Ibiza in Playa d'en Bossa. It's true when they say the Spanish start their evenings extremely late! The doors opened at midnight, and the show itself didn't even start until 1am! It was such a surreal experience, with multiple different concerts going on in the different rooms throughout the building - there was even a DJ and full nightlife party going on in the bathroom! It was a wild and over-sensory experience. We had an incredible time, and likely would have been back to our hotel at 5am had it not been for the delayed bus the left us stranded in Eivissa until 7am! (Hey, it's all part of the experience right?)
We had a fantastic time in Ibiza, got to practice our Spanish, enjoyed fantastic local food, and spent plenty of lazy time on the beach. By the end of our trip, the time had flown by too quickly! And Ron's new favorite food is definitely seafood paella. Looks like we'll need to learn to make that one!
