With just a 15 minute train ride from Newcastle, we decided to spend a day last weekend exploring the beautiful, historical city of Durham. We walked up the cobbled, brick streets of the city centre, had tea at the Flat White Cafe, toured the 900-year old Durham Cathedral, and ended the day with a candlelit English dinner at the Garden House Inn. I think it's fair to say we enjoyed the best that Durham has to offer, and we're looking forward to another visit back there very soon! Hopefully it won't be too long... after all, the Durham castle tours were all sold out, and we definitely need to go back for that.

UPDATE!
We learned after our visit that the Durham Cathedral was a set to several Hogwarts scenes in the first two Harry Potter movies. Recognize these scenes?
