When you start to break out the sundresses and sandals, don't leave your hair undone. This warmer weather is a great time to explore fresh, new styles to dress up each outfit. I'm not a hairdresser, and I've never been particularly skilled at getting every strand to lay just right. But, I've done my share of practicing and searching for new styles to try. Luckily for me, a little mess isn't a bad thing - it's actually in style! So even if you're not an expert, you can still try out some new styles without worrying that those random kinks will ruin the look.

From what I've seen, this year's style is braids. And I have a little confession to make: I've never braided my own hair. While all my girlfriends were braiding cute headbands of their hair across their foreheads, I continued straightening. It's a challenge to learn how to braid backwards, on your own head, differently than how you would to someone else's hair. But I've been practicing, and I can't wait to try all of these braided types of hairstyles.
One of my favorite bloggers to revisit for classy, simple hair styles is Kate at the Small Things Blog. My favorite one of her posts includes tutorials for beautiful braided ponytails and buns, among many others! When I'm feeling adventurous and want to challenge myself, I make an attempt at one of her styles.
While browsing Twitter a few days ago, I found some more inspiring braids (one of which is from Kate!) in a post by BirchBox. While I haven't tried any of the recommended sprays in that article, I have made an attempt at their middle hairstyle option.

Keeping in mind that this was my first try, I don't think it turned out half bad!

I started by making a small braid behind each ear. Then, I pulled the braids across my hair to the other side, and tucked each braid under the opposite ear. Just a few bobby pins kept it snug all day long, and the stray strands here and there didn't keep me from getting compliments :)
